Henry Lee Lucas tuvo una infancia desgraciada. Fue encarcelado por acuchillar a su madre. Desde su puesta en libertad se dedica a matar de forma indiscriminada. Escoge sus víctimas al azar y las mata con un método distinto cada vez, sin establecer una pauta de comportamiento para no ser descubierto. Le ayuda Otis, un tipo que conoció en la prisión. Un día llega Becky, la hermana de Otis, y se queda a vivir con ellos. Pronto se crea una atracción entre Henry y Becky. Una noche, Otis y Henry salen de juerga juntos y matan a dos prostitutas en un callejón. Una espiral de violencia y asesinatos se apodera de ambos, y ya nada volverá a ser lo mismo.
