King Diamond es el nombre artístico empleado por el músico Kim Bendix Petersen. Nació en Dinamarca el 14 de junio de 1956. King Diamond da nombre también al tercer proyecto musical en el cual está envuelto actualmente y del cual es líder como vocalista del mismo.
El grupo en el cual debutó fue Black Rose a finales de años 1970, después conformaría la banda Mercyful Fate en 1980 y finalmente King Diamond como carrera solista desde 1985, antes de retirarse de Mercyful Fate en 1999.
Dedicado a realizar discos conceptuales, donde desde la primera canción a la última se va desarrollando una historia entrelazada. El grupo tiene fanáticos incondicionales desde la época de los Mercyful Fate, a lo largo de más de 20 años.
La característica voz de King con cambios en la entonación, su característico y estrafalario maquillaje, con ciertos tintes satánicos, los textos y los efectos especiales en sus discos lo hacen único en el género, lo cual no tienen ninguna relación apropiada para el género del llamado black metal.
King Diamond siempre se ha caracterizado por su estrafalario maquillaje, desde la época con Mercyful Fate ya se había dejado ver con él.
La idea del maquillaje
El mismo King afirma haber sacado la idea al ver a Alice Cooper en acción en un escenario: "Desde ese momento me enamoré del maquillaje corporal, lo convertí en un icono personal, ahora es algo que siempre llevo encima".
A principios de los 80, King recibió desde Estados Unidos una carta de Gene Simmons (Kiss) diciendo que Diamond le había copiado el maquillaje, (por esa época King llevaba un estilo muy parecido al de la estrella estadounidense). A las pocas semanas, King apareció con un maquillaje muy distinto y mucho más estrafalario.

The main part of the stories told on this album is unfortunately true, and took place during the french inquisition, 1450-1670. All of the following characters are real and from that period of time.
Nicholas de la Reymie: Head investigator of the Christian Burning Court (Chambre Ardante), in Paris, France.
Jeanne Dibasson: Suppossed witch
Madeleine Bavent: 18 year old french nun who entered the convent at Louviers in 1625, after having been seduced by a priest. Died in 1647 in prison.
Father Pierre David: Chaplain of the convent at Louviers till his death in 1628
Father Mathurin Picard: Chaplain of the convent at Louviers from 1628 to his death in 1642. Among his sick, insane deeds he managed to rape Madeleine Bavent.
