Sinopsis:
En el invierno de 1820, el buque ballenero de Nueva Inglaterra Essex fue atacado por algo que nadie podía creer: una ballena de tamaño y voluntad impresionante, con un sentido casi humano de la venganza. El desastre marítimo auténtico que provocó inspiraría la novela Moby-Dick de Melville. Pero esa novela solo contaba la mitad de la historia. Heart of the Sea revela lo que ocurrió después, cuando los supervivientes del buque llegaron a una situación límite y se vieron obligados a hacer lo impensable para permanecer vivos. Sometidos a grandes tormentas, al hambre, al pánico y a la desesperación, esos hombres se cuestionaron sus creencias más arraigadas, desde el valor de sus vidas hasta la moralidad de su trabajo, mientras el capitán busca la dirección en mar abierto y su primer oficial sigue buscando vencer a la gran ballena.
